Space Cowboy Lawyer

Don't wanna be a space cowboy lawyer anytime soon
Don't wanna have to get all dressed up just go to the moon
I'd like to just sit around
and read my New York Times
And simply daydream about being that guy

Don't wanna be a space cowboy lawyer
Have to keep up to spec with my new space voyager
I've got my own saddle,
and it doesn't use any carbon fuels
Anyone who would change themselves is becoming their own fool

I remember when I could go outside
and not have to hide my face
When the stars shined oh so bright,
but now they're serving five to eight

Is it my fault for leaving them behind,
wanting me to come back home?
I thought I'd return before I knew it,
instead they're leaving me alone

Backdraft

"A penny buys a box of matches. One penny and you can set the world on fire"
- Fugard; Tsotsi

There we stood among the exhaust
of a thousand broke down cars
Waiting for a chance we thought we lost

There the fire burnt around us
Never thought we'd get this far
In the home of the free of their thought

My eyes were still full of the dust
Taken from your shooting star
A sight for sore forgiveness now

We're so slow among the crowd's rush
Not too far from where we are
A light off of the reluctant bow

Fire
The fire's burning deep inside us,
Reaching for our throats
When we think we're down and out
Preaching all our hope

Tonight we're burning up in the fire
In the fire, our hearts are the last to go

Does anyone else feel like this? Sorry, that was a stupid question.

They told me, but I didn't listen
I pursued in spite of the advice
I'm in no troubling situation
Just shot dead on the corner of last night

I'm your prince, I'm your marionette
Circling below your playful head
Certain circles should not be broken
Is it too late to go back to bed?

Come on, don't break me faster
I'm here until the morning after
Time flies so let's make it last more
Holding hands in the back of the theatre

Those times were good, but I can't live there
Heartstrings ripping everywhere
Sephia day dreams of when
we were beautiful

Making contact with the best and brightest
Never knew what we had inside us
Potential...
Is that all that it'll ever be?

Follow Through

I'll just shake my head
As you say that you want him
Because there's nothing there that people see in him

He's a hollow case, a waste of empty space
And a future is a far-fetched dream for him

I'll cringe here instead
As you say that you want him
His hands hold nothing, just promises paper thin

There's a basket case, the first to lose the race
The future is a far-fetch dream for me

Where's your hero now?
Where's your hero now?
He's off killing you inside, and fucking with your mind.

I can't thank you for being here
When all you did was tell him on your phone
I feel so far away when you're near
When I'm with you, I never feel more alone

Where's your hero now?
Where's your hero now?

Sally

The simple answer is that
There's no way
She'd give me the time of day
But it's okay,
Because I'll try to find a way
To get her to love me

I love the chase
But is that all it means to me?
Another broken day
That my heart plays like a timpani
When I think she loves me

Her name is Sally, not ally
The keepsake of your goodbyes
But are you really just the waiting kind?

When you look down at my worn shoes
Do you see dedication or a ratty tattoo?
When you listen to my young voice
Do you hear the infliction lost on old boys?

Her name is Sally, not ally
The keepsake of your goodbyes
But are you really just the waiting kind?

I'm just a little boy, house broken and brokenhearted
Waiting to see if we can go back to where we started

If you need me on twenty-third
Just call me up and say the word
Because I just can't keep myself
Away from you

Yellow Nights

Look at you, you look so fine
But do you know any other way
To keep me occupied?

You're an negligent angel in neglige
With chalk outlines around your wings
Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?
Because it sure as hell nearly killed me

Look at you, you look so fine
But do you know any other way
To keep me occupied?

You turned my invertebrate heart
Into a stainless steel blood factory
Extramarital affairs worth meddling
What happened to your limits after eighteen?

I was caught in the headlights
Couldn't speak, couldn't breathe
When you threw your words at me

I was lost in the blue nights
Couldn't speak, couldn't see
When your eyes hooked on me

Look at you, you look so fine
But do you know any other way
To keep me occupied?
