One Day

Did he ever think that he would be famous one day,
Backtracking his way through his breakneck of the woods?
He had everything attached to his name like a knapsack
His worth clung to what he knew on the spelling test

But the results were positive
Sure as the water in the Ohio River
His friends, never hit or miss
Sure as the lager in his father's liver

Copy and paste, no time to waste
Years paved into the gray sidewalk
Holding him back, mouths open
A chip off of the old road block

Never saw it coming
He never saw it
Never saw it coming
He never saw it

In the Shade

You look so cute
With the sun hanging in your eyes
So blonde and blue
From when you had to say goodbye

The grass is green
On the other side of the argument
My lock, your key
Holding on by a glowing filament

And I
Will hold
Your hand
Despite whatever weather is thrown at us

And we'll
grow old
Again
Just like the dreaded leather dreams of lust

And we'll stand in the shade today
