A
As an old man, I’d hate to admit
A D
How many times I’ve switched out my closet
It’s the same life and all the same shit
I don’t think any of this even fits
E D
Man I miss the days
A
of young clothing
Man I miss the days
of young clothing
Never saw the world, not a single fat lip
Did all I could before I had to be home at six
Looking at a catalog of old habits
They sing to my heart like a summer chorus
Man I miss the days
of young clothing
Man I miss the days

Old Fashioned Courses
I look out my window and all I see are stars
The feeling of dirt in my shoes hangs so very far
All I want is the smell of burnt rubber in my soul
I’m always running and I never get anywhere fast
Relatively it’s all the same is all I learn in this class
All I want is wind in the flag at my goal
I wanna race on those old fashioned courses
Measure my engine by the power of my horses
And close my eyes as I go speeding along
The feeling of dirt in my shoes hangs so very far
All I want is the smell of burnt rubber in my soul
I’m always running and I never get anywhere fast

Hot / Rich + Famous
I've only seen you
in online magazines
A homegrown celebrity
My very own tragedy
I picture you
Walking down the street
With your hands in your jeans
Man, it's seventy degrees
Imagine me and you
Trying to feel free
We could drive around, top down
Hands out in the breeze
And is that all the summer meant?
A signed postcard of a sunset
From you?
I've been in love with you
Circa two thousand and three
I'm a fan of God's work
Would you please write back to me?
And is that all the summer meant?

Roaming Rough Rider
Here's the tale of a makeshift pirate
Who's sailed five out of the seven seas
He doesn't know where he's going
Setting his sail by the tune of the breeze
Yo ho ho, he's missing home,
Yo ho ho, how far can he row
Yo ho ho, he's missing home,
How far can he go with him playing the part?
How far can he go with him playing the part?
Now the heart grows for a port-side lover
Even though her love's not for free
They call her the "Roaming Rough Rider"
For the way she tames cavalry
Yo ho ho, he's missing home,
Yo ho ho, how far can he row
Yo ho ho, he's missing home,
How far can he go with him playing the part?
How far can he go with him playing the part?
Counting the stars and the dancing moonlight
Falling asleep to the breath of the waves
Tending to the whims of his forgotten member
Now there's no chance that he'll see the bay
Yo ho ho, he's missing home,
Yo ho ho, how far can he row
Yo ho ho, he's missing home,
How far can he go with him playing the part?
How far can he go with him playing the part?
Finally his boat starts licking the land
Racing to the inn to see his lady
Heartbroken he finds, she treats men like lanterns
One if by land, but two if by sea.

Palpitations
Not this state of mind,
Nor this state of grace
That I've imagined for my place
in time can ever understand
or exist past the imaginary
controls that sit at the front of my brain
like a pilot who has lost control of his ship.
Her ship
Their ship
A vessel and no further
A lesson to the accident that brought me here
Us here.
I can never say anything without hope.
Our relationship now relies on the hope
That one day I'll be able to catch up with you
In this one way conversation.
My biggest fear is that that is not true.
My biggest fear is that that is true and that I am not.
If I make it to the clouds and find you waiting
Will I be as elated as I imagine myself to be now?
I'm afraid I'll see it as I was worried for nothing.
Like how I get someone else to drive me to events
because I'm too afraid to park
but when we get there, I realize
that I could've just driven here myself
Nor this state of grace
That I've imagined for my place
in time can ever understand
or exist past the imaginary
controls that sit at the front of my brain
like a pilot who has lost control of his ship.
Her ship
Their ship

Suffern
Something is wrong with me
Can we test all the organs?
To find out the folly
With this human body
But I don't know what's going on
What's happening to this brain
And this bag of broken bones
Feel the roots of this nerve
Wrapped around my stomach
My eyes are seeing stars
More than several lightyears away
Among the shade of my eyes
Lies a permanent fever dream
Lies to my face on this side
Of the intelligent monument
Trains rumble through the night
Their passengers' fervors gleam
I can hear them through the blinds
All their dissonant temperaments
Can we test all the organs?
To find out the folly
With this human body
But I don't know what's going on
What's happening to this brain
And this bag of broken bones
Feel the roots of this nerve

Forgive, Forget
It's all the same colors
Standing in a hue with a view
A rustic Polaroid
Thrown to the sky, why don't you come down
She's showing off her sweater,
Her undercover pleasure
It's been so long since she's been upset
Her friends are all her family
Don't turn around completely
Live and love and laugh and
Forgive and forget
Her soul is made of leather
Complexion is no better
Has she finally earned her independence?
Hyper extended family
Check them on the big screen
Live and love and laugh
Forgive and forget
She's a tenant of my heart
It's sad to say, she's here to stay
Never close, always apart
A falling out would make my day
Standing in a hue with a view
A rustic Polaroid
Thrown to the sky, why don't you come down
She's showing off her sweater,
Her undercover pleasure
It's been so long since she's been upset

Entwined
Looking for an air-conditioned adventure
This hemisphere, well are you so sure?
You just met me this winter
Drove twenty nine miles to see her
At a Dairy Queen
Off the egg-beaten path
Don't neglect reading past
Filters and signs
A fitting ensign
Defined in flight by
the look in your eye

Hey Sue
I love you

You are not all put together

But I want to be your missing piece
Hey Sue
I want you
Some argue birds of a feather
And I can't find words to disagree
Hey Sue
I need you
Your deep beauty sleep's better
I can feel it in your razor teeth

Over and Out
I'm two years past my prime,
and you have two years until you realize
That whatever strings I have
Are no longer keeping you together
It was only a matter of time
Before this daydream left my life
With only whispers of a laugh
Teasing me now for good measure
Why can't you see?
This is you and me
Why can't you see?
No matter where I'll be
It won't be over, it won't be over
It's not over, it's not over
We never had our signature kiss
Dancing in the rain, something I can't miss
Etch another date in that monolith
Standing in soft soil, yet so weathered
Why can't you see?
This is you and me
Why can't you see?
No matter where I'll be
It won't be over, it won't be over
It's not over, it's not over
Over and out, over and out
I told my smile to cut it out
Were you looking for a way out?
I told my smile to cut it out
Over and...
Why can't you see?
This is you and me
Why can't you see?

Cool Kids
"You're going to lead us," they whispered like ash in the wind.
"You're going to follow through and inspire"
I continued to lie in that puddle of mud and discreet secrets pulling me in deeper. I wasn't sinking, but I was hoping that I could drown in this subtle problem of the instant.
I'd fallen into the same traps and repetitions and they had finally caught me in a snare of my own words.
Sentences unfinished.
Fragments left behind the grenades of my mental inhibitions.
Churning out a system based on a flowchart of instability.
So predictable.
Fingerless gloves belonging in this melancholy scene.
You're going to lead us.
You're going to pull us through.
Hyah!

Life.
Life. Before that there is nothing. There are the strands of what we now call thought floating in an endless, blind sea. There is no hope, for that fuels life.
"Life?"
This question breaks the formless architecture of pre-Life. It is based on thought that has no structure and no limitations. It exists forever in its nonexistence.
Once the question is asked, that pool is tapped and life is created. Every one of these thoughts has a chance to ask the question, not knowing what is on the other side. When they ask the question, they materialize and are permanently created. They cannot be taken apart, only broken down to more and more thought.
In this pool, there is no time. Nothing moves forwards or backwards.
There is no potential.
But once it surfaces, it is assigned a value. There are suddenly statistics that cannot be erased.
---
"So what do you think?"
"I'm not sure."
"You're never sure."
The voices argued.
"There is nothing here for us. On the other side is something we cannot imagine, something that cannot imagine us. We could be happy there."

I wonder what you look like
Without that outline around your eyes
I know you do it for yourself
But I'd like to see your smile
I'm beggin' you heaven to send a dispatch
Save me from one of your own
I won't make it through tonight
Where her white wears my heart like home
Without that outline around your eyes
I know you do it for yourself
But I'd like to see your smile
I'm beggin' you heaven to send a dispatch

Unreal
Look at all these people walking
Giving up their tender right to breathe
And these people keep on walking
Slowing down as an idle slight to me
Looking up to the ground
Getting closer to the bounds
Of what time really means to
Those standing around
Anticipation in the lounge
Where the Present is a wrapped up gift to me
Giving up their tender right to breathe
And these people keep on walking
Slowing down as an idle slight to me
Looking up to the ground
Getting closer to the bounds
Of what time really means to
Those standing around
Anticipation in the lounge

Bonnie Tyler
Man, I'd kill again to be a hundred and ten
To take back those years from the battering ram
And
Lean into when I could take care of myself
When I still had my friends and a reservation in Hell
Now I'm still here and the ground is all gone
Sympathy packed up and set a sign on its lawn
On
The days that are longer than the lines on my face,
I play with the letters that used to fall into place
To take back those years from the battering ram
And
Lean into when I could take care of myself
When I still had my friends and a reservation in Hell
Now I'm still here and the ground is all gone
Sympathy packed up and set a sign on its lawn
On
The days that are longer than the lines on my face,
I play with the letters that used to fall into place

Easy Ease In
Oh, won't you please forgive me
If I mistake your comfort for affection?
So I'll ease back, ease back
Step off for a while
Let you come to me
If you ever do
Lend me your overdose
In the form of a burgundy rose
Lend me your overdose
So I can drown in your sympathy
If I mistake your comfort for affection?
So I'll ease back, ease back
Step off for a while
Let you come to me
If you ever do
Lend me your overdose
In the form of a burgundy rose
Lend me your overdose
So I can drown in your sympathy
